A mark on a ring or bangle can be useful information when you enquire about selling gold. It is not a buying quote. Before visiting Ramya Gold Finance in Mayiladuthurai, note any visible markings and explain whether you are asking about a sale or a loan against the jewellery.

What BIS says about hallmark markings

The Bureau of Indian Standards explains that the HUID hallmark introduced in July 2021 has three elements: the BIS logo, purity expressed in caratage and fineness, and a six-character alphanumeric HUID. BIS provides a Verify HUID feature through the BIS Care app. Older jewellery may carry different markings; do not assume every piece will have the current format.

Keep verification separate from valuation

A hallmark lookup is not a current purchase offer from Ramya. Ask how the shop will assess your particular item and explain the proposed valuation. A visible number, an old invoice and an online gold rate describe different information; none should be substituted for the actual offer you are reviewing.

If the mark is missing or difficult to read

The BIS consumer FAQs state that consumers can sell their old hallmarked or unhallmarked jewellery to jewellers. That general guidance does not establish Ramya's acceptance policy for an individual piece. Describe the jewellery and ask what assessment and supporting information the shop requires before travelling. Do not alter the item to try to expose a mark.

Questions for the shop

Ask whether the marking can be discussed during assessment, what happens if information cannot be verified, and whether the offer identifies each piece separately. Tell the team about missing components or repairs you already know about. Do not describe Ramya as a BIS testing centre or assume a particular testing method: neither has been confirmed for publication.
